Fields of Six in Aqueduct Features; Longleat, Vigorous Sprint Opponents Gravesend Claiming Cap Pits Vain Puritan, Mostest At Mile and One-Sixteenth AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 23.— The Gravesend Claiming Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth, and the six-furlong Brownie Purse are the moderate features offered at Aqueduct tomorrow. Small fields of six have been named for each of these events with the sprint having attracted the better field of the two, though carrying a ,500 purse, 00 less than the Gravesend. The Brownie, which is named for Joe W. Browns stallion, who finished with Bos-suet and Wait A Bit in the famous triple dead-heat in the Carter Handicap of 1944, has lured a nimble sextet. B. F. Christmas Winship and Hudson Valley Stables Mighty Quest, who will be ridden by apprentices Jimmy Hardinbrook and Henry Schab, resepctively, have the best recent form in the dash and receive weight from their rivals. Both have a high turn of speed and come from good races over the local strip. Edward Potter, Jr.s, Longleat and T. P. Morgans Vigorous are the top-weights in the Brownie with 120 pounds each and both won two dashes before running unplaced in more ambitious company. Longleat followed his two Balmont Park scores with an unsuccessful venture in the Ocean-port Handicap over the pitted Monmouth stripe, while Vigorous finished fifth in the Polynesian Handicap at Belmont after winning two lesser events. Eric Guerin will be on Longleat, while no rider has been named for Vigorous. The latter breezed a slow half in :51 at Belmont this morning. The others in the Brownie are D. J. Schneiders Elixir, another who was unable to negotiate the Monmouth course last out. after two good races on Long Island, and _ IB of of ► Mrs. R. M. Smiths Sagittarius, a veteran who has shown that he retains much his speed. Ray York has been engaged for or i Sagitarrius, who gets in with 113, while J* Ted Atkinson will pilot Elixir at the same poundage. . The half dozen in the Gravesend, which ;?| follows the Brownie as the sixth race, all carry 5,000 claiming tags and it is doubtful 1 " if any will be haltered at that price. :e- Charfran Stables Vain Puritan heads the ie band with 122 pounds and comes from a a bad race, which followed a victory. T. G. 3- Bensons Mostest, another who disappeared Jd recently, is next in line with 120. No riders rs have been named for this pair, or for M. H. a- Nadlers Standee, who is the lightweight ■t of the party with 104 pounds. Ted Atkinson will ride High Stables ss Thirty Love at 114, while Conn McCreary ry will pilot Woolford Farms Earmarked at at 112, and O. Denemarks Taran completes es the field at 106 pounds, with Albert Wid-man i- in the irons. Taran comes from a pair ir of victories, while Earmarked has been ;n sprinting with varied success. The Wool-ford 1- Farm gelding might be able to steal al this event.
