t i I - I ■ I ; 7 1 5 0 8 o Royal Pageant Narrow Victor In Adelaide Cup Renewal ADELAIDE, Australia, May 13 Reuters. — The nine-year-old Royal Pageant, by Pageant, out of Reenbri, carrying 111 pounds, today won the Adelaide Cup after one of the best finishes in the history of the race. Many of the 18 runners were bunched during the last furlong of the two-mile race but the L. McMahony veteran, oldest in the race, finished stoutly after Rousvaross looked like he was going to be the first three-year-old to win since 1915. It was the sixth successive Adelaide Cup win for a Victorian-owned horse. The race was worth ,000, plus a gold cup. Royal Pageant changed hands three times last season, the last time for about 00. He started at odds of 8 to 1 today and beat the 50 to 1 outsider, Calaton, un- der 91 pounds, by a short head. Rousvaross, at 8 to 1 and under 95 pounds, was another half length away in third place. A crowd of 42,000 watched the race in sunny weather and saw South Australias governor. Sir Robert George, attending the first race meeting here this season and presenting the gold cup to the owner of the winner. Royal Pageant ran the two ! miles in 3:23.75. I
