Selima Stakes of 1954 Carries 0,000 Added Entries for Laurels Rich Filly Fixture Close Tomorrow Night LAUREL, Md., May 13.— The 1954 Selima Stakes, one mile and a sixteenth fixture for two-year-old fillies which shares the spotlight at Laurel each fall with the Washington, D. C, International, will carry a purse of 0,000 added, an increase of ,000 over the prize to be offered this coming autumn. Entries for the 1954 event close at midnight Friday. The initial payment is 0.00 for the now yearling fillies and it must accompany the nomination. To remain eligible, a 0 payment must be made on January 15, 1954, and a final 0 ante on June 15, 1954. Additional conditions for the race call for 20 to pass the entry box and 50 to start. To all these fees, Laurel will add 0,000, of which ,000 goes to the second horse, ,750 to the third horse, and ,250 to the fourth horse. There is also nominators award with the owner entering the winner receiving ,000, the second horse, ,000, and the third 00. Last year, Brookmeade Stables Tritium, the winner, took down 2,330 out of a gross purse of 5,180. The 1953 Selima, which has a final payment due on June 15, at present has 327 eligibles. This surpasses last seasons high of 314, one reason why it is one of the richest races of its kind in the country. Dates for the Laurel fall meeting are October 26 through November 17, at which times Laurels new ,500,000 clubhouse and turf club, now under construction, will be unveiled to the public.
