Grissom Shuts Out White Sox, 3-0 Fires Four-Hitter T » Against Ex-Mates Veteran Boston Righthander Fans Six and Walks Three; ■ Boiling Hits Second Homer By JACK FROST United Press Sports Writer BOSTON, Mass., May 13.— Aging Marv Grissom turned on his former Chicago teammates with vehemence today, firing a superb four-hitter as the Boston Red Sox beat the White Sox, 3-0, before 3,698 Pen-way Park fans. For four and two-thirds innings the 35-year-old righthander had a perfect game going. Then Minnie Minoso singled cleanly into left field to spoil Grissoms chances at immortality. Though Grissom has been in baseball for 12 years, this is only his third season in the Major leagues. But he turned in the best performance of any Boston pitcher this season, giving up three walks and 1 striking out six batters — twice fanning Vern Stephens, who had gone to Chicago in the swap that brought Grissom here. Only in the eighth inning was Grissom in trouble when two walks and a single loaded the bases. But a double play retired the side. Score in First Inning The Red Sox opened up on losing pitcher Joe Dobson in the first inning, scoring a single run on a walk and two hits. Sammy White singled to score George Kell. They picked up a second run in the fifth when ! Gene Stephens walked and came home on Kells double and added a final run as Milt Boiling hit his second home run of the year in the sixth. Grinning after his victory, Grissom said he loved to pitch at Fenway Park and had i no fear of the short fence in left field. "Id much rather have batters swinging I for the fences than having them poke away at the ball and find the holes," he said. "I [ think theyre easier to get out when they r are swinging for the fence in Fenway." Dobson, the loser with a 3-3 record, was : lifted in the fifth inning. Score by innings: R. H.
