Lausche today signed a bill to increase I the Ohio pari-mutuel tax although he ob- 1 jects to the measure. Lausche previously | said he had planned to let the bill become a i law without his signature. He said if he 1 had done this the bill would not have been 1 effective for 10 days and during that time ! the state would lose about 00,000 in revenue. j Lausche also announced that Zoltan i Gombos will be chairman of the Ohio Rac- t ing Commission. He replaces O. C Belt. : Gombos lives in Cleveland and is publisher ] of several foreign language newspapers. Belt, a Republican, is a Columbus automobile dealer. Under the present law, the total take is I 10 per cent, with the state receiving from I 1 to 3 per cent of the money wagered, on a sliding scale. Under the new law, the total i take will be 12% per cent, with the states share of the play from 2 to 6 per cent, also on a sliding scale. Lausche said he expected the racing commission under Zombos to make changes in the racing commissions rules. Lausche also said he expected the commission to establish a uniform date for the tracks to file their financial statements. He also said he expected track operators to give "detailed financial explanation of doubtful items of the financial statement." He said he expected the commission to revoke the license of a track which fails to i give the racing commission "pertinent information." The changes in the commissions regulations were an outgrowth of the legislatures i difficulty in obtaining financial statements ; of the tracks. The proposed regulations were also an . outgrowth of the racing commissions difficulty in getting an explanation of a 5,000 I expense item in the financial statement of the Fort Miami raceway near Toledo.
