MARTIN WHELAN was rushed to the front on the outside post position soon after the start, and drawing out on the first turn, was never pressed and was in hand near the end. EASY COIN closed up steadily when called upon and was easily best of the others. RENO RED had a fair turn of early speed, but weakened and just managed to save third place. WICHITA LASS went wide on the stretch turn, but finished well. VIBRATE had some early foot. FOXY V. raced to the outside fence on the first turn. ONE TWELVE was badly outrun and broke down in the stretch. Overweight— Vibrate, 5 pounds; Strike Em Dead, 3. Foxy V. claimed by P. H. Green. Reno Red claimed by Grace Kosiba. STEAMBOAT BILL began his move nearing the far turn and, racing strongly on the outside, forged to the front near the end, although racing rather wide and was going away at the finish. ROYAL LUCK was closest to PHANTOM HEELS most of the way and outfinished the latter. PHANTOM HEELS set most of the pace under mild reserve and responded fairly well when called upon. BILL TWIG saved some ground to close a gap. SEDGEG00D tired. WHAT A PEACH dropped out of it in the last quarter. Overweight— What A Peach, 1 pound. W. was always closest up and raced many lengths in front of the others for the greater part of the trip WRACK PLAY bore out badly in the early part but made up ground in the late stages. COLUMBUS BOUND went to the front at once and withstanding a challenge from KITTY ANN after going a quarter, drew out on the backstretch and saved ground in the stretch to increase his advantage. SPEEDY JET was required to ease to prevent running up on the heels of the leader in the first quarter, then was unable to find clear passage on the inside, but easily bested KITTY ANN in the stretch run. FINE FIDDLE followed JACKIE VAN closely in the first half mile while racing under slight restraint, then went to the front when straightened out for home to draw out gradually. JACKIE VAN dashed to the front at once to set a good pace and was not menaced for second place. GRASS FIRE closed with good courage to best HAPPY GANDER. The latter weakened in the stretch. ANOVAS took command early to draw away from the field on the backstretch, but shortened stride in the last sixteenth and was doing his best to hold SAMS BRIDE. The latter was never too far removed and, finishing with good courage, was gaining. SO THERE was outrun to the last quarter, then came steadily. BOGALUSA also made up some ground.
