Frank Lausche today signed a bill to increase J the Ohio pari-mutuel tax although he ob- 1 jects to the measure. Lausche previously i said he had planned to let the bill become a i law without his signature. He said if he t had done this the bill would not have been 1 effective for 10 days and during that time s the state would lose about 00,000 in revenue. s Lausche also announced that Zoltan s Gombos will be chairman of the Ohio Rac- t ing Commission. He replaces O. C Belt, s Gombos lives in Cleveland and is publisher 1 of several foreign language newspapers, t Belt, a Republican, is a Columbus automobile dealer. s Under the present law, the total take is i 10 per cent, with the state receiving from £ to 3 per cent of the money wagered, on a 1 sliding scale. Under the new law, the total £ take will be 12% per cent, with the states 1 share of the play from 2 to 6 per cent, also on a sliding scale. i Lausche said he expected the racing com- 1 mission under Zombos to make changes in i the racing commissions rules. I Lausche also said he expected the com- mission to establish a uniform date for the I tracks to file their financial statements. He I also said he expected track operators to give "detailed financial explanation of i doubtful items of the financial statement." I He said he expected the commission to re- : voke the license of a track which fails to i give the racing commission "pertinent information." The changes in the commissions regulations were an outgrowth of the legislatures I difficulty in obtaining financial statements of the tracks. The proposed regulations were also an I outgrowth of the racing commissions difficulty in getting an explanation of a 5,000 : expense item in the financial statement of the Fort Miami raceway near Toledo.
