, . j ! Delaware ParkAnnounces 1 Its Roster of Officials Flanagan, Rainey, G. Brown, Jr. Will Again Serve as Stewards DELAWARE PARK. Stanton, Del., May 13. — Delaware Park, where thoroughbred racing returns May 29 for a 32-day meeting continuing through July 4, today announced the list of racing officials for ito 1953 season, as approved by the Delaware Racing Commission. In the stewards stand will be the same three men who have so ably served in the past. Joseph F. Flanagan will represent the racing commission, Calvin Rainey the Delaware Steeplechase and Race Associa- ! tion, and George Brown, Jr., The Jockey I Club. It was at Delaware Park that both Flanagan and Rainey first officiated as stewards. Flanagan, who bred the all-time money-winning champion steeplechaser, Elkridge, will be serving here for a tenth consecutive year. Rainey was first appointed a Dela- ware Park steward in 1950 and has since served in a similar capacity at Hialeah and Garden State Park. At one time a jockey, he gained experience as an official in other capacities at New York and Florida tracks prior to becoming a steward. Brown, one of the sports veterans, has been a steward at Delaware Park since the track opened in 1937. J. Gilbert Haus will again officiate as racing secretary and handicapper. In rec- | ognition of their fine service in the past, Edward T. McLean and Allan Lavin have been promoted to the posts of assistant steward and assistant racing secretary, respectively. McLean formerly served as a , patrol judge. Lavin, as before, will also be one of the placing judges. Charles Triplett switches from timer to patrol judge, with Frank H. Powers, Jr., assuming the post of timer. James Butler will serve as visiting member of The Jockey Club. The list of officials follows: Stewards: Calvin Rainey, Joseph F. Flanagan, George Brown, Jr. Assistant steward: Edward T. McLean. Racing secretary: J. Gilbert Haus. Placing judges: Allan Lavin, A. E. Abadie, Henry Erickson. Starter: George R. Palmer. Clerk of Scales: ; Edward Dennison. Patrol judges: John C. Daly, Carroll E. Burns, Wm. A. OConnor, Charles Triplett. Paddock judge: William Jennings. Timer: Frank H. Powers, Jr. Track veterinarian : Dr. David W. Crisman.
