Lesnick, of Baltimore, Md., today r li announced that he had purchased control- . F ling stock in the Cranwood and Thistle ; Down race tracks, located in Ohio. Lesnick, .. who is also a stockholder in Pimlico, made - s the purchase from Cary C. Boshamer, who 5 relinquished his holdings in the two tracks, . e because of the press of duties at Pimlico, », £ at which track he serves as president. I Cranwood will begin its 30-day meeting l June 8 and Thistle Down will open on Sep-tember 11 for a 44-day run. The latter w track will offer its first meeting since being rebuilt. Cranwood and Thistle Down were acquired by Boshamer, Lesnick and D. R. Wilson on August 3, 1951, from the estate "e of the late Edward P. Strong. Lou Pond-field was immediately designated as general manager. The new group conducted * its first meeting in the fall of that year. . Thistle Down has been idle since 1944 when a fire razed the grandstand and clubhouse. The stands have been replaced and the sport is scheduled to reopen there e this fall. Prior to the asquisition by Boshamer, r, I Cranwood was operated by the Cranwood 3 Racing Association, with George W. Lewis " s ] as general manager and C. W. Tipling as A j president. They reopened Cranwood on n May 12, 1948. after the track had been idle e to thoroughbred racing since 1932. Lewis i was general manager of the old Detroit it ! Fair Grounds for several years.
