Assemblyman Patrick McGee, Republican of Los Angeles, who sponsored the measure, said his proposal would permit 42 days of harness racing in each half of the state, instead of the 35, as at present. McGee added that this would permit the racing associations in the southland to have a meeting each spring and fall. The bill has the approval of Dwight Murphy, chairman of the California Horse Racing Board, but it was opposed by Senator Jack Tenney, Republican of Los Angeles, who indicated that the addition of more racing dates might "kill the goose that laid the golden egg."
