Charming Way Outsprints Flying Circus at Camden Has Two Lengths to Spare After Holding Big Early Advantage By FRED GALIANI Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 19. — Dashing out to a long lead early in the race, E. H. Mesmers Charming Way had enough left to hold off Mrs. J. Kelleys Flying Circus by two lengths in the featured Purse here today. A length and a half ; farther back came Jaclyn Stables odds-on Main Bout in the field of seven. Jimmy Stout was up on the winning son of Deliberator — Miss Sal and he drove the three-year-old gelding over the six furlongs in 1:11ft on a fast track. Neglected by a large majority of the crowd of 23,054 at the race, the winner paid 0.20. Charming Way was out of the gate first and opened up a five lengths lead down the backstretch, before Bear Market, Main Bout and Flying Circus. Main Bout could never get close to the first two and this was the third straight time he finished in the show slot. Kay-Gee Stables Marked Game made a stirring stretch bid in the Freeholder Purse, yoked W. E. Browns Bank Coal and the two of them fought it out nose and nose to the wire, with the latter earning the decision by the barest of margins. It was the second straight score of the day for Jimmy Stout, who rode Bank Coal, coupled with Joe Gavegnanos Fighting Fleet as the favorite in the race. Bank Coal paid .40 after covering the mile and a sixteenth in 1:45. The winner romped by six lengths in his last, but had a lot more trouble this afternoon. High Bracket set the early pace, disposing of Payucano early, while Bank Coal then wrested command midway of the turn. Marked Game, who had been last at the first turn, made his move gradually and, coming into the stretch, was second. Jack Skelly got to within an inch of the leading Bank Coal, but no farther. Three lengths back in third place was Florence De Larias Harpes.
