The bout will be nationally tele- vised in the regular Saturday night series, s Chief Whitewater is a replacement for t Eddie Chavez, who was originally sched- I uled to meet Fiore, but was forced off the r card when he was found to be suffering t from dysentery. Both Chavez and White- I water are members of the same stable, be- 1 ing managed by Syd Flaherty, who is also 1 the pilot of Carl "Bobo" Olsen. J Although this will be Whitewaters first 1 local main event appearance, he is already t known in fistic circles as a topflight wel- i terweight and has touched gloves with the 1 best. Among those that he has defeated I are Rudy Cruz, Babe Herman, Lauro Salas and Gerald La Broi. The Chief is a great i drawing card out on the West Coast and i just recently lost a 10-round split decision c to Jimmy Carter, lightweight champion 1 of the world, in the Olympic Stadium in e Los Angeles. A Training at Midwest Gym j Carmine Fiore, one of the better young 1 welterweight prospects to arrive on the scene in the past year, has been chalking c up victory after victory and, in 50 pro j fights, has established himself as one of the top-ranking 147-pounders in the coun- i try today. A two-fisted fighter, always s boring in, throwing leather and giving fans 1 just what they paid for, a real good fight. Both Chief Whitewater and Carmine J Fiore arrived in Chicago yesterday morning. They are training at the Midwest Gym. Promoter Irv Schoenwald pointed out that the main event between Whitewater and Fiore will begin sharply at 8 pjn. CDT, thereby enabling the rest of the nation to watch the show at the regular time. •
