Donkey Derby in Sussex To Be Run Next Monday LONDON, May 19 Reuters.— The Epsom Derby may be the talk of the country, but the tiny, sleepy Sussex village of Wivels-field* Green has an anticipated pleasure which, to its inhabitants, outweighs the "blue riband of the turf in importance. On Whitsun Monday May 25 the donkey racing season starts in Wivelsfield Green. Twelve months ago the villages Whitsun Monday card attracted a crowd of 22,000 people, and traffic was paralyzed in all directions for at least three miles. The meeting had a bigger press and radio coverage than any other home story. Wivelsfields card for this White Monday includes the 100 Guineas Handicap, known as the Donkey Derby, which was won last year by the appropriately named veteran, ! Methuselah. Donkey racing, with its headquarters at Wivelsfield and racing clubs throughout the country, has come to stay.
