Seaflash Front-Running Victor at Suffolk Downs Scores by Length and One-Half; Nitro Dugan Second, Argyle 3rd By AVERY BROWN Staff Correspondent 1 SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., ■ May 19.— Henry A. Kimballs Seaflash, ] carrying 107 pounds and apprentice rider j William Walsh, proved a front-running vie- I tor of the best offering of todays all- claiming card at Suffolk Downs. The Hal- cyon gelding came to the end of the six . furlongs in the creditable time of 1:11% ! over a track termed fast, but still in a drying-out condition. A length back of the victor came G. Di Mesticos Nitro Dugan, with Ton DeSpirito ! in the saddle. Another half length away was J. and P. Venutis Argyle. Frankie Shaws Mesmer, installed a tepid choice in the eight-horse field, could do no better j than finish sixth. A surprisingly mild sunny day attracted ! 10,464 patrons to this seaside oval today. Two favorites won in the earlier events to ! add to the comfort of the form players, who didnt exactly let Seaflash get away, installing him second choice, and he paid .80. In carrying the lightest impost in a long time, Seaflash benefited by a heady ride from Walsh, a Lawrence, Mass., youngster. He had the Kimball gelding away running when Buddy Wingfield dispatched the field and, after opening a length on Tommys Memory, Walsh folded up and took a snug hold of the pacemaker. The margin remained the same until nearing the quarter-pole where Seaflash was urged into a couple of lengths advantage and that proved the cushion needed to withstand the late rally of Nitro Dugan. Riding honors in the early events went to Dick McLaughlin and aided the Haverhill booter to increase his dwindling lead over DeSpirito. Last years leading reins-man kept within striking distance of his rival with a score in the sixth race on H. M. Gettingers Mr. Covell.
