Eleven in National Stallion for Fillies Evening Out Looms! As Likely Favorite Sitting Duck, Anegada, Tops, Fascinator, Superupper Vie With Mrs. Wideners Miss BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 19. — The sixth running of the filly division of the National Stallion Stakes at five furlongs on the Widener straightaway , is the feature attraction at Belmont Park tomorrow. The National Stallion engaged , colts and fillies in the same division from ; its inaugural in 1898 when Tod Sloan won it on John- Dalys Jean Bereaud, while George Odom took the first renewal on . Green B. Morris Pupil at Morris Park. The best remembered of the Morris Park winners was the last, H. B. Duryeas Tanya, who scored in 1904. Since the National Stallion shifted to Belmont Park in 1905, it has gone to such greats and near greats as Colin, Sweep, Chance Shot, Blue Larkspur and Equipoise with only four fillies being able to whip their male rivals before the stake was split. Tanyas feat was not duplicated until 1938 when Longchamps Farms Donita M. triumphed, while the same stable won the National Stallion with Mrs. Ames in 1943. C. V. Whitneys Enfilade completed the quartet in 1945. Five of the 11 fillies entered tomorrow won their last starts at four and a half furlongs on the straight course here and all scored in approximately the same time, the fastest being :51% and the slowest. :52V5. The probable favorite is Mrs. George D. Wideners Evening Out, who made a winning debut in the Fashion Stakes 11 days ago and scored impressively over Wolf Gal, with Sitting Duck and Greentree Stables Mainsail, of tomorrows field, far behind her. Evening Out is a strapping daughter of Shut Out — Evening Belle, by Eight Thirty, and will again be ridden by Ovie Scurlock. who hustled her along in : 52 on a fast track. Fascinator Easy Winner The easiest of the recent winners was ; Maine Chance Farms Fascinator, who romped home eight lengths before a large i field in :5215. but was carrying a ,500 i claiming tag. The daughter of War Jeep — Miracle Sister, by Bull Dog, will again have the services of Hedley Woodhouse, but breaks from the unfavorable number 1 post position, The fastest of the quintet of recent win- ners was Elmendorfs Anegada, who scored [ by a length in :51%. C. V. Whitneys Dis-; pute made her second start in this dash I and turned in a fairly promising effort to , finish third, almost three lengths behind [ the winner. Bill Boland will ride Anegada, while Dave Gorman will be on the Whitney miss. The other local winners are James Cox Bradys Superupper, who scored by three I lengths over Little Bear on a sloppy track : in :52 ft, and Hal Price Headleys Tops, who beat Snooksie by a half length in :52 j on a fast track, and Sitting Duck and [ When in Rome, who won at Jamaica, and then finished third in their only outings ; in the Widener chute. Eddie Arcaro will I ride Tops, breaking from the extreme out-l side, which has not been as much of an ad- vantage this year as in former seasons, while Bennie Green will guide Superupper. Eric Guerin has been named for both i Sitting Duck and When in Rome, while I Ted Atkinson will ride Mainsail. When in i Rome finished two lengths behind Main-r . sail when that filly was beaten a neck by f Maine Chances Incidentally. In her previous start, Mainsail was beaten almost two lengths by Sitting Duck, who was beaten ! almost four lengths by Evening Out, with t Wolf Gal finishing between them. That t was Mainsails debut and the Devil Diver f w filly raced very greenly, showing sharp improvement . in her next outing. The field is completed by Darby Dan t B Farms Clear Dawn, who won her last start t ! in New Jersey on a sloppy track and raced 1 B creditably at Hialeah during the winter. . I W. B. Williams is slated to ride the daugh-. . ter of Heliopolis. t Racing secretary John B. Campbell has 5 B arranged an unusually attractive support-. ing card for the mid-week sport, with the S f Level Best Purse bringing together some ; speedy sophomore fillies in the fifth race at six furlongs, while the ,500 Patchogue 5 " Handicap has drawn such stakes horses as 5 , Brush Burn. Iceberg II.. Ancestor and the j J* capable, if not classy, Arcave at a mile and I * a furlong. This will be the seventh race. J ■ , [ ! t , • : . ; t . I ; « ■ , i t 5 1 ; 1 l -
