The finish was the closest race of the meeting with just about one length separating the first six horses in the nine-horse field. Lock Out, ridden by young John Ralph Adams, was a fast closing second, with Princess Ann, the pacemaker, saving third place from the fast closing Ida C. Mahplay nosed out Shane for fifth place. Jockey Ronnie Baldwin rode well on Neverlator, who paid 2.00 and was the fifth outsider of the day to register. The boy placed his charge well in the early running and moved him at the opportune time. As it was Neverlator was fortunate to score over Lock Out. That one was a half dozen lengths back of the field at the half way mark, but young Adams sent him between horses in the stretch and he might have been the winner in a few more strides. Adams dad, John Sr., finished seventh with Countess In. 12,090 in Stands The second days racing here was viewed by a crowd of 12,090 under sunny skies.
