Heutel Takes Measure Of Favored Color Guard Muckler Runner Length and Half On Top in Randalls Warren Purse By RONALD A. KRANCER Staff Correspondent RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, Aug. 18. Mrs. Elizabeth Mucklers Heutel, a stakes-winning son of Some Chance, scored by a length and one-half over Color Guard in the featured Warren Purse here this afternoon. Olympic View, who set the early pace, was third, another three parts of a length back and six lengths before Click-Click. Poopcha was last in the smalr" field. Apprentice Raymond Zanelli rode a nicely judged race aboard the Muckler color-bearer and, as a team, they completed the mile and one-sixteenth in 1:43, which is only three-fifths of a second over the track record. Heutel was a strong second choice and paid .60. A crowd of 5,618 turned out on a cool afternoon to witness the program. Olympic View gained the lead soon after the start from Heutel, who had come out of the gate first. Going into the back-stretch, Olympic View was in front by a comfortable three lengths, with Heutel sec- Continued on Page Fifty Heutel Takes Measure Of Favored Color Guard Muckler Runner Length and Half On Top in Randalls Warren Purse Continued from Page One ond, two lengths before Color Guard. Click-Click was fourth and Poopcha was last. Midway up the backstretch Heutel made up one length on the pacesetter, but young Zanelli was in no hurry to make his move and was content with his position as the field raced into the far turn. Color Guard was still third and the other ,two trailed. Half way around the final Bend, Zanelli made his move and Heutel moved up strongly from the outside and shot into the lead. On the stretch turn he was in front by a half length over Olympic View who, in turn, was leading the favored Color Guard by one length. Through the final sixteenth, the ultimate winner began to draw clear with each stride and Olympic View was unable to hold Color Guard and wound up third. It was the second, tally of the meeting for Heutel and his third of the season in nine starts. Edward, M. OBriens Miss Degree, nicely ridden by the veteran Arnold Kirkland annexed the sixth race by a half length over Pashpie who, in turn, was a neck better than Reaping Love at the end of the six furlongs. Miss Degree- paid 0.20 being clocked in 1:11. There was a lot of early speed in this, contest so the riders of the three "on the board" horses bided their time in the first half mile while Crystal Sign, Bonrilla, and Texas Coin went out and set the pace. Those three tired badly at the head of the stretch and Miss Degree moved through between horses to wrest command a sixteenth of a mile out. Pashpie finished gamely while on the outside of horses while Reaping Love who was sluggish in the early stages closed the fastest of any while between horses. Miss Degree was winning her third race of the season and her first here at Randall Park in four starts. The Shamrock Farms Dancing Harp, given a nice ride by Joe Benitez, scored by a neck over Easy Reward in the fifth face. Magic Choice -was third, another two lengths in arrears and a half length in front of Acquiesce at the end of the six furlongs. The winner paid 5.60 and covered the six furlongs in 1:12. Magic Choice moved through to gain the lead soon after the start and was in front by a half length as the field swept around the final bend. Easy Reward was second and Dancing Harp was saving every available inch of ground while in third position, a half length off the pace. On the stretch turn, Magic Choice faltered and it appeared as though Easy Reward would go on to annex the contest, but Dancing Harp moved along boldly and got to the front at the furlong marker by a scant head with Easy Reward right along side. Those two battled it out that way for the next sixteenth of a mile and then very gradually Dancing Harp began to draw away while Easy Reward started to shortenhis stride. The winner is owned by Art Rooney, president of the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Professional Football League, and was bred by Rooney. The filly was winning her fourth race of the year in 12 starts. Between the third and fourth races Mrs. Evelyn L. Hopkins Three Rings was given a mile workout. The gelding looked to be in excellent condition and with jockey Marcus Pena aboard worked the following fractions, :26, :51, 1:17, 1:43. The boy at no time hit the son of Blue Larkspur.
