Increase Purse Minimums To 00 at Hamilton Fast Cosmic Rates Call to Take Honors in Richmond Purse Today By R. E. HURLEY Staff Correspondent HAMILTON, Ohio, Aug. 18. Opening day at the Butler County Fair Grounds proved the most successful of the 14 annual openings that have taken place at the pretty little Hamilton race track. The final attendance figure of 5,421 racing fans was a record opening day crowd for the half-mile oval and their betting aggregate of 59,833 topped all previous opening day figures. The new "tote" facilities in the! centerfield proved very popular with the fans and relieved much of the congestion around the inner rnig. The management had provided many multi-colored benches in the oak-shaded centerfield and refreshment facilities were provided as well as the mutuel windows. The high tone of the opening prompted Ithe management to announce that the purse minimum for the remainder of the meeting will be upped to 00 starting with the races of Wednesday. President Dan E. Cronin also indicated that further increases would be in order if the trend of racing followed the record shattering opening. In view of the program arranged for tomorrow, this purse schedule is most generous, for the entire card is given over to claimers with half the races scheduled for horses that have not won this season. The seventh race at five -furlongs has drawn about the best field and has been given the title of the Richmond Purse in keeping with the Hamilton policy of honoring neighboring townsites. R. B. Berinis Past Cosmic, an invader down from Detroit, will probably earn the role of favorite against Indian Breeze, My Bid, Beach Belle, Fleeting "Rock, Wye Care, TJ. S. Mary and Buddy K. Fast Cosmic was a winner on the final day of racing at River Downs completing a 00 Daily Double under the guidance of Steve Kovach. This twosome spent the interim racing at Hazel Park and are reunited in the Richmond tomorrow. The only serious threat to Fast Cosmic will probably be My Bid who is extremely fast and will appreciate the five-furlong distance. As usual on -Wednesdays, eight races have been carded with first post at 4:00 p. m.
