High Treason Beats Older Foes in Nunthorpe Stakes First Juvenile Eyer to Win Dash Regarded as British Championship YORK, England, Aug. 18 Reuters. Harry Joels two-year-old chestnut colt, High Treason, became the first juvenile to win the Nunthorpe Stakes which at five furlongs is regarded as the British sprint championship when the three-day meeting opened here today on the Knavesmire track. High Treason, by Court Martial Eastern Grandeur, starting as a 9-to-4 favorite, matched strides for most of the way with Robert Sterling -Clarks American-bred four-year-old filly, Fairy Flax, who started as co-favorite with the winner. The juvenile colt, who was receiving 27 pounds from Fairy Flax, ran on stoutly in the final yards, holding off the challenge of Prince Aly Khans four-year-old filly, Pampa, by a half-length, with Fairy Flax in third position a neck away from the runner-up. Ridden by Mickey Greening, High Treason sped the five furlongs in :59. Owner Harry Joel had a memorable day of racing. He ran five horses and three of them won with the other two finishing in third place. His two-year-olds Kings Evidence and Lavengro, along with High Treason, completed the hat trick in the first three races. The Aga Khans three-year-old filly, Kerkeb, ridden by Sir Gordon Richards, took the Yorkshire Oaks of 12 furlongs as a 7-to-4 chance. The victress, who is by Straight Deal and Brenda Mar, outstayed Lord Roseberys Skye by two lengths to win the ,984 first prize in the field of eight. George Rolls unpredictable five-year-old Zucchero was on his best behavior today in the Rose of York Stakes of eight furlongs. While being ridden by Lester Piggott, Zucchero came from away back to speed past the Irish Derby winner, Thirteen of Diamonds, which he beat by one and one-half lengths. His time was 1:38 and he paid 15-to-8 with the bookmakers, but the totalisator odds were nearly 3-to-l.
