Stage Governors Day At Rockingham Course Ed the Great Seeking Sweep of Marathons in If Miles Test By AVERY BROWN Staff CorrespondentJ ROCKINGHAM PARK, Salem, N. H., Aug. 18. Tomorrow has been designated as Governors Day at Rockingham Park with the chief executive of the Granite State, Hugh Gregg, scheduled to make a personal appearance. It is fitting that the local management has gone all-out to provide one of the best week-day programs offered during the New England season. Heading the array of thoroughbreds to compete will be the third and final event in a series of marathon handicaps. The event has been renamed the Governor Gregg Marathon Handicap and finds seven routers headed by Pebblebrook Farms Ed the Great meeting for a ,000 purse at a mile and three-quarters. The Gilded Knight gelding picks up 126 pounds and will be seeking a clean-, sweep of the marathon handicap series in addition to keeping his skein of four victories intact. Jamie -Lynn Stables Girder, who was second in the mile and a half marathon last week, will try the Pebblebrook, representative again at the longer route. Girder is in tomorrows race with 111 pounds. Rebut, 117; Buss Up, 109; Lets Dance, 110; Country Editor, 107, and Bit-O-Moon, 101 pounds round out the field for the feature. The Nashua, a ,000 six-furlong dash for four-year-olds and upwards, precedes the feature and has attracted such capable sprinters as Henry A. Kimballs Algasir and Seaflash, C. J. Pionas Navy Lord, A. A. Crabbes Hit Parade, Vicente and Navarros Hadnt Orter, Olen Sledges Cross Ring, Irving Gushens Soldier Son and J.G. Hills Our Dorie. None of this field needs any introduction to New England patrons and when they have met in previous races, a stirring contest was the result.
