Color Guard Overtakes Avacado for Neck Score Registers Upset in Randall Park Handicap Before 11,983 Patrons By RONALD KRANCER Staff Correspondent RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, Aug. 29. Coming from far back in the field, W. L. Huntleys Color Guard, a four-year-old son of Occupy, ran the finest race of his career to score an upset victory in the 0,000-added Randall Park Handicap here today. A rank outsider in the 11 -horse field, he got up to win by a neck from the tiring Avacado, who had opened up a comfortable lead in the stretch. It was Color Guards third victory of the meeting. The Occupy colt ran the mile and one-sixteenth in 1:44 and paid 9.80. The value to the winner was ,750 and increased Color Guards earnings for the year to 3,950. A crowd of 11,983 was on hand to watch the Pittsburgh Day program. Mayor David H. Lawrence of Pittsburgh presented the trophy to Mr. and Mrs. Don Yates. Yates is Color Guards trainer. Perfectly ridden by the veteran Joe Servis, Color Guard was allowed to settle into stride slowly. Avacado, Mondaval and Jack Jr. took turns setting the early pace, with Color Guard racing back in eleventh position. H. Simpsons Windy was winner of the Cuyahoga Handicap series No. 5, under the handling of Hartack. Bold King was second and Kings Tip, third. Time for the miel and six furlongs was 3 :00. By winning with Windy, Hartack completed a triple for the afternoon. Windy paid .80. Flashing a tremendous stretch drive, H. i W. Shaffers speedy three-year-old Effortless got up in the final strides to score by a length over the favorite Pashpie in the seventh race, styled the Broadway. Unhurried by jockey Willie Hartack in the early running, Effortsless moved up between horses coming into the stretch, stormed up on the outside of Pashpie in the final yards to win going away. It was the third straight victory for the son of Jacopo. Effortless covered the six furlongs iri 1:11 and paid .00 to win. The sixth race saw A .T. Taylors homebred Beach Admiral score a stunning upset, scoring by a neck in a driving finish which caught three horses on the wire. Ably handled by Juan Sanchez, Beach Admiral came on again after surrendering the lead to Galway Boy in the stretch. Beach Admiral scored by a neck over Galway Boy with the favorite, Mr. T. A., another neck farther back. The winner paid 1.00 and covered the six panels in 1:11 . In the fifth race, styled the Lake Erie, Mrs. Mary H. Hunters classy filly, Pinelet, took the measure of four juvenile rivals with ease. The daughter of Pinebloom, under 119 pounds, was away alertly and allowed to settle into stride by jockey Johnny Nazareth as Pantata set the pace.
