Several Stakes Contenders Due at Washington on Monday WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., Aug. 29. Stakes contenders from California,- New York, and New Jersey are scheduled to arrive at Washington Park to fulfill important engagements coming up the final seven days of the meeting. Indian Hemp and the stately mare, Sickles Image, are scheduled to arrive here Monday to gun for the 70,000 Washington Park Handicap, the Labor Day "Miracle Mile" that will bring out most of the best handicap horses in training. Mrs. Samuel M. Pistorios Tuscany also will check in Monday for his date in the Handicap. The other invader is Turn-to, a fashionably bred colt who is aiming at Saturdays 50,000 Washington Park Futurity. Indian Hemp is owned by Alberta Ranches, Ltd., of Canada. The four-year-old colt is an Irish-bred son of Nasrullah Sabzy, by Stardust, and was imported to this country by the well-known horseman, Max Bell, who notified racing secretary Kil-roe that Indian Hemp would fly in from Del Mar Monday. The colts lengthy period of acclimitiza-tion kept him away from the charmed circle in 1952, but this year he has developed into one of the best handicap horses on the west coast. His last race was on July 23 when he picked up 124 pounds, conceding all of his foes weight, and won quite nicely from formidable opposition. He is a stable-mate of Royal Serenade, who was originally scheduled to start in the Washington Park, but who was injured and forced to the sidelines. Sickles Image Winner Friday Sickles Image is back in her very best form, which means she rates as a threat to any mans horse. Only Friday she won her second straight race at Atlantic City, where she established a new track record of 1:23 for seven furlongs. It was immediately after she cooled out that her owner and trainer, Clarence Hart-wick, decided to give her a chance in the "miracle mile." She was third to Crafty Admiral and To Market in the big race last year. Until she suddenly found her best form at the seashore resort, Sickles Image had a 1953 record that left something to be desired, in view of the fact that she ranked among the best of her sex last season, winning sitf of 26 and 05,000. Turnfto is an English-bred colt by Royal Charger Source Sucree, by Admiral Drake. The colt recently engaged in the controversial Saratoga Special that resulted in the suspension of Eric Guerin and the subsequent employment of Eddie Arcaro to pilot Native Dancer to his American Derby triumph.
