Cancel Portland Meadows Card When Transformer Blows Out PORTLAND MEADOWS, Portland, Ore., Aug. 29. Just about everything that could happen to a race track has happened at one time or another to Portland Meadows, so what occurred Thursday night was no surprise. The heavy rains turned the racing strips in the Northwest into darkness. A transformer, feeding power into the track, blew out, and the plant was in complete darkness for about 30 minutes. It was learned that it would take several hours to repair the transformer so the crowd was told there would be no racing that night and admission tickets would be honored on any future night. Racing secretary Bill Schuling announced that the blacked-out Thursday card will, in ,all probability, be made up some Monday night before the meetings close on October 10.
