Three Stakes Remain at Washington Handicap Is Big Labor Day Finale Beverly on Wednesday and Futurity Saturday Precede Running of Rich Headliner WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., Aug. 29. The colorful, coordinated meetings at Arlington Park and Washington Park, where the nations top racing has been offered during the summer months, heads into a smashing climax during the last seven days at Chicagos South Suburban course. A trio of stakes that will gross approximately 55,000 are on the agenda. The first of this final series will be on Wednesday, when the leading fillies and mares of the country will meet in the 5,000 added Beverly Handicap. Saturday will be a red-letter day for the smartest two-year-olds of the thoroughbred sport, for that will be the occasion for the 5,000 added Washington Park Futurity. Something of a crescendo wil lbe reached on the final day of the Washington Park meeting, Labor Day, September 7, when leaders of the handicap division clash in a race that officially is named the Washington Park Handicap, but which has gained considerable recognition in recent years as the "Miracle Mile." Heading the probable field of starters for the Beverly will be Mrs. H. J. Damms Arab Actress, who has earned her spurs as queen of the middle-western three-year-old fillies through a series of brilliant efforts. Her most recent test was quite conclusive in this respect, for she shouldered 124 pounds, top weight, and scored a spectacular win in the 0,000 added Misty Isle. Arab Actress was third in the Kentucky Oaks, second in the Artful Stakes and third in the Monmouth Oaks, aside from winning the Cleopatra and Misty Isle handicap. Bella Figura Topweighted Among those expected to dispute the issue with Arab Actress are the four-year-old Bella Figura, from the Brownell Combs stable and who has been assigned 124 to 123 for the three-year-old Damm filly; Warner L. Jones, Jr.s Lillal, Mrs. Herbert Herff s Mimi Mine, Fred W. Hoopers Eddie Sue, Buddah Stables Sunny Dale, Miss Mary V. Fishers Fulvous, Mrs. Ada L. Rices Cerise Reine, Fairway Farms Good Call and others. The Futurity will bring out Hasty House Farms powerful duo of Hasty Road and Sea O Erin, both of whom have won stakes during the Arlington and Washington Park meets. Hasty Road, however, is regarded as , Jhe kingpin of Illinois developments in the juvenile, -ranks this year, and there are those who regard him as the tops of the country. He has started four times, winning his first three and finishing third in. the other. His defeat came at the hands of Sea O Erin in last Saturdays Prairie State Stakes here. However, there were reasons for his loss, for he was forced to break from the extreme outside in an 18-horse field, stumbled and lost a great deal of ground around the turn. Still, lie was beaten less than two lengths for all the money, with hisstablemate, Sea O Erin, the victor; Hasty Road shouldered 124 pounds, 12 more than his partner. Consequently, the defeat did not take any lustre from the speedy colt. He had previously won three at Arlington Park, including the Arlington Futurity. Sea O Erin Picks Up Weight Sea O Erin is an improving sort. -ie will be forced to pick up additional weight in the Futurity, but still looms as a dangerous threat. Louis Lee Haggins Homestake, a stretch-running colt who won the George Woolf Memorial at Washington Park, and who was out of the money in the Prairie State, rates highly in the Futurity. He was the victim of severe infereference in the Prairie State. Others who figure in the Futurity are Dixianas Roman Spy, Rex Ellsworths El Drag, James Emerys Cosentina, Greenacres Stock Farms Mr. Prosecutor, Hal Price Headleys Revolt and Pinetum, Clifford Mooers Spy Magic, and other juveniles. The Washington Park Handicap probably will be headed by Calumet Farms Mark-Ye-Well, Oil Capital, owned jointly by Mrs. Harry Trotsek and Hasty House Farm, and Mrs. S. M. Pistorios Tuscany. Others still listed among the nominations who could furnish formidable opposition are H. G. Bockmans Happy Go Lucky, Dixianas Sub Fleet, Hampton Stables Alerted, Golden Maxim Stables Eljay, Hasty House Farms Ruhe, King Ranchs High Scud, K. G. Marshalls Coffee Money, Clifford Mooers Cyclotron, Reverie Knoll Farms Smoke Screen, and Mrs. Ada L. Rices Pet Bully. Mark-Ye -Well has been hitting the comeback trail, after having been sidelined for some time. Mark-Ye-Well engaged in a brilliant winter campaign at Santa Anita, then suffered a quarter crack. It was necessary for him to grow a new hoof before he INDIAN HEMP The California handicap ace is coming here for the Washington Park Handicap. was able to return to the racing scene, which he did in the recent Clang Handicap. Oil Capital was hero of the Arlington Handicap, in which he defeated Sub Fleet in a stirring stretch battle. The Gray stallion has been carefully trained with the Washington Park counterpart of that event in view. Tuscany has compiled an impressive record, winning a division of the Boardwalk Handicap at Atlantic City in his most recent start for his fourth victory in a row.
