IN THE BLUE GRASS J STALLION DIR - By Joe Thomas ยป Scores of High Gun and Collisteo Highly Pleasing to Asburys Two of Six Yearlings They Will Market Closely Related to Pair Hardin Returns to Kentucky With Nine Mares Bred to Windy City II. Seventeen Coltstand Nine Fillies Final Foal Count at Walnut Springs LEXINGTON, Ky., June 19. โ Reflected glory is an important asset to a commercial breeder and particularly at this time of the year when the yearling sales are only a short time off. Consequently, last weeks racing was especially pleasing to . Charley Asbury and his son, Tom. Among the six yearlings they . will market at Keener land next month, are two who are closely related to the Belmont Stakes winner, High Gun, and to the Queens Plate winner, Collisteo. High Gun is by Heliopolis out of Rocket Gun, while the Asburys yearling is by Greek Song. One. of Heliopolis best sons, out of Last Ray, a half-sister of Rocket Gun. Another of their top colts is a son of Brookfield โ Narki. His dam, a daughter of Anark โ La Rambla, is a three-quarters sister of Collisteos dam, Colleen Pat. AAA Sahford Hardin, who has spent the last few months in California with the mares sent. West to be bred to Windy City JX, returned to Kentucky last week with nine of them. Seven are the property of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Reinemans Crown Crest, one is owned by Harvey Fruehauf, the other by Clyde Buckley. All but one of the returnees were bred this year to Windy City XL, who is to enter stud at Crown Crest next year. The exception is in foal to Heliopolis brother, Seven Seas. Incidentally, Windy City n., who was bred to 32 mares this spring of which 22 already have been examined and pronounced in foal, is expected to arrive at the Reineman nursery early next month to be available for inspection during the Keeneland sates. AAA The foaling season at Clifford Mooers Walnut Springs Farm, home of the Preak-ness winner Hasty Road, has ended with a score of 26 foals of which 17 are colts. Sires of the new arrivals include Hill Prince, Blue Swords, Brmelech, Rico Monte, I r Depth Charge, Djeddah, Alibhai, Menow, Mr. Trouble, Shannon II:, Ambiorix, Princequillo, War Relic, Free For All and Ardan, plus the home stallions Hawley, Buster and Old Rockport. AAA The Preakness winners dam, Traffic Court, is dead, hence there is no new half-brother or sister of the worlds greatest money-winning juvenile. However, his half-sister, Miss Traffic, who raced well in top company herself, was retired this spring and bred to Roman, hence, next year a three-quarter sister or brother is expected. A A A* Len Tracy, of the Thoroughbred Record, has succeeded Rebecca Edwards as executive secretary of the National Association of Thoroughbred Breeders. Miss Edwards resigned to devote her full time to her secretarial service. The annual summer meeting of the officers and directors of the NATB will be a breakfast session at the Campbell House, July 26. AAA Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kleberg stopped off to inspect the new foals at King Ranchs Kentucky annex while en route back to Texas after watching their High Gun cop the Belmont Stakes. Maine Chance Farms Mr. Busher, who stands at Leslie Combs H.s Spendthrift Farm, has had two crops go racing and from each has come a winner of the Polly Drummond Stakes. AAA Last year it was Incidentally, a member of the brother of Bushers first crop. This season Fantine Busher made it two in a row by winning the first division of Delawares annual event for two-year-old fillies. The recent discussion concerning stud i fees will get an open hearing July 10 when a panel will tackle the problem at a regular luncheon meeting of the Thoroughbred Club of America in the Lafayette Hotel. AAA Already lined up for the panel are A. B. Hancock, Jr., Charley Kenney and Olin Gentry, while the list of "probables" includes Ira Drymon, Lou Doherty, Dr. Eslie Asbury and Duval Headley. At its next meeting, June 26, the TCA will hear a talk from Jeremiah Courtney, a Washington, D. C, radio and television lawyer by vocation, a horse player by avocation. He will talk about the effects of a high "take" on the average bettor. AAA After spending a number of years trying to raise a top racer at their Palmeadow Stock Farms, Kellar arid Paul Little finally succeeded in breeding the Belmont Stakes winner, High Gun. However, they will be unable to capitalize directly on that success for at least two more years. High Guns dam, Rocket Gun, has neither a yearling or a foal of 1954. Last year she* had a filly by Johns Joy, but it died soon after birth. Then she went barren. But Rocket Gun is now believed in foal to Olympia, a son of High Guns sire, Heliopolis.
