Manipulations Spread to Real Estate TRENTON, N. J., June 19.— The investigation into the financial manipulations of former New Jersey governor Harold G. Hoffman spread today to real estate transactions in which one builder netted a reported profit of nearly 00,000. Investigators said that Nicholas Lucarelli, a Jersey City builder, will receive 31,500 from the state for property valued at 00,000. The deal was said to have been arranged by the former Republican governor who died of a heart attack two weeks ago. Approve Sale of Statler Hotel Chain NEW YORK, N. Y., June 19.— The sale of the Statler Hotel Chain to the Webb and Knapp realty development organization has been approved by the directors of the hotel company for an estimated 0,000,030. Arthur F. Douglas, president of the Hotels Statler Co., Inc., announced yesterday the board of directors of the company approved an offer by William Zekendorf , president of Webb and Knapp. Accuse Summerfield of Pressure Tactics WASHINGTON, D. C, June 19. — The National Federation of Post Office Clerks charged today that Postmaster General Arthur T. Summerfield is using pressure tactics to defeat a 7 per cent, postal pay raise. It also accused him of trying to ram a jpb-reclassification plan through Congress while scuttling the wage increase. Reports Reach Defense Officials QUANTICO, Va., June 19.— Sketchy reports on the Guatemalan uprisings late tonight began to reach top Defense officials attending a. top-level conference here. One of these officials told reporters he was sure the United States "is not going to shed any tears over what happened." Sen. Hunt Found With Rifle Wound WASHINGTON, D. C, June 19.— Sen. Lester C. Hunt D.-Wyo. was taken to Casualty Hospital today suffering from a rifle wound in the head. The Senator, who recently informed Wyoming Democrats he would not seek re-election for health reasons, was found in his office by his administrative assistant shortly after 9:15 a. m., E.D.T. . Bowdoin Honors Premier Flemming BRUNSWICK, Me., June 19. — Premier Hugh J. Flemming of Canadas New Brunswick province was awarded an honorary doctorate of laws today at the 185th commencement of Bowdoin College. Flemming, father of a Bowdoin alumnus, was cited as "A gracious Canadian gentleman — now establishing a model for good government." FOREIGN: French Repulse Attack af Hanoi HANOI, Indochina, June 19. — Thousands of communist troons attacked the Hanoi-Haiphong road-and-rail lifeline today but French tanks and aircraft repulsed the onslaught. The screaming Reds surged over the high embankment on which the road and parallel railroad run through flooded: rice fieldst in an attempt to ambush a French Union company guarding the supply line. A French high command spokesman said the attack took place west of Hai Duong, about 29 miles east of Hanoi. Order U.S. Top Geneva Diplomats Home GENEVA, Switzerland, June 19. — The United States ordered all its top-ranking diplomats home from the Geneva conference today, paving the way for France to negotiate on its own for an, end to the Indochina war. Plotting Against Guatemala LONDON, England, June 19. — Moscow radio said in a broadcast to Latin America [ today that United States "monopolists" are "plotting a fresh crime against the Indians" of Guatemala. The broadcast monitored here said Indians have been the worst enemies to American monopolists throughout history. Anti-Reds Moving on Guatemala City TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, June 19.— An invading army led by anti-Communist Guatemalan exiles, striking by land, sea and air, was reported moving steadily on Guatemalas capital .city today and gathering strength as it advanced. Col. Carlos Castillo Armas, 39, today is making his second attempt to overthrow »the Guatemalan government. Castillo Armas led an abortive uprising during the November, 1950i elections in which Jacobo Arbenz Guzman was elected president. Leading a force of some 70 civilians he attacked a military base on the outskirts of Guatemala City but was captured and imprisoned. India Impounds French Cargo CALCUTTA, India, June 19.— India impounded some cargo aboard a Saigon-bound French airliner here today"af ter detaining the planes 84 passengers overnight on suspicion they were military personnel bound for Indochina in civilian clothes. Mendes Forms End-the-War Cabinet PARIS, France, June 19. — Premier Pierre Mendes of France today formed an end -the -Indochina -war cabinet from a wide range of political parties and kept the foreign ministry for himself. Radical Socialist Edgar Faure kept his present post as minister, of finance. The interior ministry went to Francois Mitterand of the leftist Democratic and Socialist" Union of Resistance UDSR.
