• i Ten Sprinters Meet In Lincoln Feature Calicut-Stoner Creek Entry Faces Red Speed, Vandanell And Miss Andrews in Sprint LINCOLN FIELDS, Crete, HI., June 19.— This picturesque race course in rural Will County enters the final phase of its 1954 reopening and homecoming meeting Monday with three days to go before the curtain is rung down Wednesday, approximately one hour after the final stakes .feature, the one-mile Au Revoir Handicap. But prior to the finale, the Lincoln Fields Association plans to present some attractive racing for its loyal supporters. First of these late programs is on tap for Monday with a five and one-half furlongs dash for four-year-olds and older horses serving as a rather unusual feature. This race is named in honor of the greater Chicago Hotel Association. The sprinters possessed of some early foot were named to start in the feature. These include one coupling consisting of the geldings Calicut and Stoner Creek, entered by trainer Elmer Kalensky on behalf of owner J. J. Gregory. Another entrant is Jacnot Stables recently acquired R?d Sreed, once a 5,000 purchase when" B. W. Landy bought the Cbunt Speed — Wise Daughter gelding from John D. Hertz a couple of years ago. The others in the feature are fillies and mares. Vandanell Recent Winner Heading this latter delegation is the recent winner, Vandanell, owned and trained by the Chicagoan, ArnoM N. Winick. The rather unfashionable bred six-year-old daughter of Harmony Cord son of the "white" sprinter, Silver Cord , out of Miss Vandy, won here Thursday, beating Legatee, Big Bargain, Charing Light and others for her first win of the 1954 season. Rounding out the featured field are Jacob Shers Ruthie S., H. R. Penneys Parklea, Park Deere Stables Say-Belle, Harry N. Eads Bahia, Mrs. H. L. Nathen-sons Miss Hubbard, and Patrick Warrens Miss Andrews. Four of these, namely, Miss Andrews, Parklea, Ruthie S. and«Miss Hubbard, "met here recently in a race in which all finished behind the winner, First Shannon, on June 14. Miss Andrews, who had started only twice previously , this year, finished second, with Parklea fourth, Ruthie S. fifth, Miss Hubbard sixth in the eight-horse field. Ruthie S., who usually tiptoes from the gate to an early lead, won at Churchill Downs before coming to Lincoln Fields, where she has started four, times. Besides her win at Louisville, she placed four times in her seven starts this season. j Parklea, a four-year-old filly by Errard, 1 out of Nadine Omar, closed her 1953 .campaign with a win at Churchill -Downs. In three starts this year she has two fourths as her best efforts. Besides her second to First Shannon, Miss Andrews was unplaced twice. The 5-year-old Menow gelding, Calicut, won his first 1954 start at Keeneland and got part of the purse in three of his four subsequent starts. j
