iltandk JUDGE S S T A N D By CHMLES l HATT0N LINCOLN FIELDS, Crete, HI., June 19. — Things racing are going to be really gala -out here in the corn belt during the new week. This Sunday there is to be an "open house" at Arlington Park, with the public cordially invited to inspect the redesigned signed plant, plant, complete complete to to a a fleet fleet of of iltandk signed plant, plant, complete complete to to a a fleet fleet of of escalators, new decor in the interiors and new mutuel facilities. We are told it is all pretty sumptuous and look forward to seeing for ourselves. Lincoln Fields closes its record breaking meet on Wednesday with the runing of the Au Revoir, which, will bring together a shifty group of milers. On Thursday the 35 days meet at Arlington opens with the 5,000 Primer for the two-year-olds and the ,500 Doris Day Purse, which honors the afternoons guest and will be for four-year-olds and upward over six furlongs. And next week end there is a renewal of the Warren Wright, a memorial - to the late founder of the sensationally successful Calumet stable and stud. AAA It seems to us appropriate that Arlington should pay such a tribute to the Chicagoan, for his devils red colors have played a prominent part in the history of its sport. Citation, Whirlaway, Armed," Coaltown,. Bewitch, Twilight Tear, Two Lea and others of the epic cavalcade of Calu-ment champions became familiar to Arlingtons select clientele. The string is to be active again at this meeting, though we are afraid we dont quite know if it has a worthwhile prospect for the Warren Wright. The Wright now has come to be regarded as a preliminary to the Classic, which this summer is to be decided on July 17 and will Have an estimated value of 55,000. It is at seven furlongs and the 25 eligibles include the Preakness Arlington Opener Highlights New Week Hasty Road Prospect for Warren Wright European Results Encouraging to Laurel Leading Stables Coming to Chicago winner, Hasty Road, the Peabody winner Sea O Erin, the Derby and Preakness third Hasseyampa, the Withers winner, Jet Action, and other, lesser lights such as Due de Fer, Pinetum and Mr. Prosecutor. Hasty Road is said to be doing famously for trainer Harry Trotsek and we take it he may be accounted a probable. AAA We grant you it is a little premature to speculate now upon the members of the cast for the next Tunning of Laurels International. But it is interesting that the winners of both the French and Epsom Derbys this season are owned by Americans. Even though Laudy Lawrence, owner of the Prix du Jockey Club winner Le Petit Prince, resides much of the year in Frances enchanting Chan-tilly. One reflects that Realph Beaver Strassburger, the Pennsylvanian who won the International last fall with Worden. II., has spent most of recent years in Paris. It would seem only natural that Americans having* the good fortune to own the winners of foreign classics might be more readily disposed to show them to the "home folks" at Laurel than would natives of other lands. Thus one may hope that the International field this year will include the French and Epsom Derby heroes. Le Petit Princes owner has a profound knwledge of world pedigree values, and we know of nobody who has a surer eye for a horse. You know he bred Princequillo and selected Alibhai for the stud, also bringing over Your Hosts dam Boudoir II. Last autumn, a mare he once owned earned the signal distinction of providing the Arc de Triomphe first and second. The extraordinary thing is that Lawrence has never, at least not to our acocunts, owned a very large stable and stud. So that their success and widespreading influence are nothing explicable in the law of averages. In passing it might be mentioned that Le Petit Prince is by Prince Bio and this stallion sired Frances ranking three-year-old of last season in the tall form of Northern Light, winner of the Grand Prix de Paris. This is the resurgent St. Simon male line. * A A More than ever, Arlington this summer will be the common battle ground for stables from all about the country. Llangollen, Darby Dan, Brookmeade, Mrs. Ada L. Rice, C. V. Whitney, Mrs. John R. H. Thouron, Cain Hoy, H. B. Delman, H. P. Headley, Reverie Knoll, Alfred Vanderbilt, Calumet, Alberta Ranches, King Ranch and many others of the most prominent owners in America are expected to be represented in North Side racing. The Whitney, Maine Chance and Mrs. John D. Hertz forces will be present for the first time in several years. The explanation of such response is to be found, of course, in the open handed -purse and stake policies, the distribution representing a record for the Chicago area. We think that A. B. Hancock, Jr., head of the American Thoroughbred Breeders Association, summed it up when asked his plans for Courtesy this summer. "With so mueh to be won at Arlington and Washington, what else can one do but point for those stakes?"
