Seventeen Sophorhores in Shevlin ► . Eleven Sprinters In Jack Kend ricks , Bally dam, Marshal at Arms Favored at ThistleDown to Beat Shag Tails, Yea Bama THISTLEDOWN, North Randall, Ohio, June 19. — The Jack Kendricks Purse, at five and one-half furlongs, will headline an excellent eight-race program to be presented here at ThistleDoWn on Monday. Eleven of the best sprinters on the grounds have accepted Freddy Burtons conditions and the track record of 1:03%, is very much in danger. Trainer Lloyd Gentry has entered Shag Tails and Big -Money, while Frank E. Fitzgerald wjll also be represented by a duet in Ballydam and Marshal at Arms. Slated to face those two interests are Mrs. Bobby Cramers Charley Foy, Mrs.- Gladys H. Fishbacks Columcille, Olin Sledges Cross Ring, Richard Fishers Skin Junior, Mrs. Betty Lou-McCumbers Mor-Snoozey, River Bend Farms Seaflash and Samuel C. Dykes Yea Bama. _ The Fitzgerald entry may go postwa"rd as a lukewarm choice in this event. Both horses were bred in Ireland with Ballydam being bought and imported to this country several years ago by Clevelander Maurice Wexler. Ballydam will be seeking his first victory of the season and will be making his initial start of the session. His last race was a third to Mohammedan while at Gulf-stream Park and his time for the five and a half furlongs was a sensational 1:04%, which is just a second over the track standard. Last season Ballydam won five times in 16 starts. Marshal at Arms Raced Friday Marshal at Arms ran here on Friday and dropped a tough nose decision to Amawalk in one of the most thrilling finishes of the meeting. Those two hooked up in the final sixteenth of a mile with - Amawalk just dropping his head at the precise moment as he hit the wire. Before-ihat, Marshal at Arms had turned in a disappointing race in the Discovery, but had looked very good in winning here on opening day. The Gentry entry will have many backers in attendance. Shag Tails made his first start of the year in the Moses Cleave-land Handicap and, in a race that was not truly run because of its size, wound up in fifth position while being oh the outside of horses most of the trip. Shag Tails has been training well since the meeting opened and may return to winning ways. Big Money, a son of Bull Lea, is. always rough over this race track and especially going five and one-half. He also turned in. a rather dull effort in the Cleaveland, but can be expected to better that race in the Kendricks. Another victim of poor racing luck in the bulky Cleaveland field was Columcille, a prime favorite here in this area. Columcille finished next to last after a very rough trip. When asked about the race, jockey Parker was quoted as saying, "I just wanted to get the horse back in one piece." Last year Columcille turned in the fastest six furlongs seen, in this area for almost 10 years when he was timed in Jl-rlOVfei He has been a winner thus far three times in 1954. He will once again be ridden by the capable Parker. Cross Ring will hold a strong card in the Kendricks. In Burtons two handicaps thus ; far Cross Ring has been second both times after checking in at the furlong marker on the front end. Cross Ring has looked very sharp and Monday could be the day for the Sledge colorbearer to crack the ice.
