Sir Sir Mango Mango Sets Sets Lincoln Lincoln Mark; Mark; [ [ On On Your Your Own Own Scores Scores Upset Upset Covers 11-16 Miles In 1:43 With Ease Eads Homebred Clicks Fifth Time in Row; Arab Actress, Ruhe Dead-Heat for Place By CHARLES HATTON LINCOLN FIELDS, Crete, 111., June 19.— Harry Eads dusky Sir Mango, carrying topweight and the bulk of support in the tote, romped to an emphatic five-length triumph in the 0,000 Lincoln Handicap before an enthusiastic audience of 12,699 here this torrid afternoon. With jockey Dave Erb sitting still, the son of Gilded Knight clipped a fifth of a second off the mile and one-sixteenth track record, hanging out a lively 1:43 flat under his 123 pounds in what was his third stakes success of the meeting. While it was no contest for the 0,350 net to the winner, a heated skirmish developed for secondary honors, and Mrs. H. J. Damms filly, Arab Actress, and Hasty Houses unpredictable Ruhe were in a dead heat for the place. At a respectable distance behind these came Precious Stone and the others of a starting field of 13. The winner returned .60 for in the wagering. Virtually Three-Horse Race The Lincoln was presented against a backdrop of lightning flashes and gathering storm clouds following a day of scorching heat, but obviously the precipitation which began during the post parade only settled the track. It was a well-run race throughout, and virtually a three-horse affair from the outset for all the sizable field. Sea O Erin, one of the trio representing Hasty House, set out to force a busy pace and fulfilled his task nobly, prompted most closely by Arab Actress and the waiting Sir Mango to the furlone pole. The Peabody winner saved all the ground and was running boldly until the stretch, where he began to weaken as Arab Actress went to him to lodge her challenge. At the same time, Erb called on the favorite and he also responded stoutly, ranging up outside the other two. It was clear that he would get the better of them from the facility with which he moved to the attack and in a few strides he was on by and drawing grandly off to an easy victory. Arab Actress ran very creditably for a thin little filly carrying 117 pounds and Continued on Page Fifty-Six Sir Mango Sets Mark in Lincoln Runsl 1-16 Miles in 1:43 to Gain Fifth Straight Score Under Silks of Harry Eads Continued from Page One continued on resolutely though she was unable to keep in contact with Sir Mango. In the final yards Ruhe surged by beaten horses and she held him for a dead heat for second money. The New England invader, Wise Margin, was prominently placed early but began to beat a retreat at the end of the backstretch. A surprise to many was the rather abject showing of the Latin American Mister I Black. He wore the red cap, and Johnny Adams, and-it was presumed Sea O Erin was being sacrificed to him in the role of pacemaker. But after dawdling along in the seventh or eighth place on the backstretch, he had nothing to offer when urged. The race was run at a lively clip for this surface from the outset with a first half in :46%, six furlongs in 1:11%, and the mile in 1:36%. John Adams rode Insulation to that fillys second success of the session in the opening event. Insulation, well trimmed last time out after having won her previous start, was well rated and scored by three lengths after having repelled Watch Toy in the stretch. Lady Ridgewell was* second while Tordar, the favorite, closed too late and could not do better than be fifth. The distance was six furlongs. Munchausen Victor in Second The two-year-olds competing in the second race ran to form, with Munchausen, the favorite, winning, and Jovial, the second choice, finishing second. Jovial took command after leaving the backstretch and led until well into the stretch, where Munchausen, ridden by Dave. Erb, took over. Munchausen, in taking his second purse here, came within one-fifth second of the five-furlong track record. The Daily Double paid 7.60. The favorite failed in the third when Fleet Ace was unable to cope with the early speed of the pacemakers or hold Bill Boy, the winner. Bill Boy, making his second start since a successful campaign at New Orleans Fair Grounds last winter, was well ridden by jockey Heckmann and won going away from Errard Beau, with Fleet Ace, who raced wide in the stretch, finishing third. The distance was six furlongs. Seldom have three well backed horses in a small field showed worse form than did Mystic Chief, Fine Fettle, and Soocru in the fourth event. They dropped 15 or more lengths back of the pace in the early running of the mils affair and did but little running thereafter, although Soocru managed to be third. Sugar Sue, only maiden in the race, was the winner and was making her twenty-second start in two years. She was ridden by Don Wagner. Menthappy, an outsider, was the runner-up. Power Drive, favorite in the fifth event, almost made it but not quite. He caught the pacemaking Gorgeous Miss about 10 yards from the finish but along came Dania on the outside to get the money. Dania was ridden by Eldon Nelson and was an outsider in the six-furlong dash.
