The Findlay Market Association contest is four four-year-olds and older horses and is the result of an extra that was hung up by racing secretary and handicapper Eugene W. Bury when the original in the book failed to attract the- right number. Under the conditions it is for the above age group which have started.,f or a claiming price of ,500 or less in 1953 and 1954 and which have not won 25 other than claiming in 1954. The Mel Eppley filly was beaten by three and one-quarter lengths for it all and was on top of this slightly better band for the better part of a half mile. Her one winning performance this year was her previous effort at this track while going amid ,000 platers. Under the able direction of jockey W. D. Lucas that day she negotiated six furlongs in 1:145 over a muddy strip, to be two and one-quarter lengths the best of Smoke House. She may again be in the right spot for a good accounting. Brownie Girl is stepping up the ladder considerably for an attempt at a third victory at the meeting. This seasoned Brownie mare handled a heavy strip effectively among ,000 platers then graduated some to the ,250 class, to turn in an even more impressive victory. Her last outing was a worthy second to C. B. Hudsons Situation in the Kentucky Purse, the spotlight attraction on Kentucky Day at River Downs of Ohio, which was celebrated last Tues- day.
