■ : ♦ ; ; Florida-Breds Won 39,673 In Purses During 1953 HIALEAH, Fla., June 19.— The first thoroughbred race horse ever bred in Florida, K. Jim Brights Marthas Queen, won two races and 50 in purses in 1939. Nine years alter Florida-breds took 52,227 in purses with 23 winners and 57 firsts. In 1953, locally-produced horses won 39,673. Of 145 starters last year, -88 were winners— a total of 231 races. Florida-bred two-year-olds did well. Of 42 starters, 22 juveniles took 39 races. They earned 74,769 in purses for 1953. Three Florida-breds won 0,000 or more, and seven others earned more than 0,000. The leaders were: Wolf Gal with ,725; Oclirock with 2,025; Marked Game with 0,285 and High Head with 5,275. Uncle Edgar, however, still tops the all-time list with 8,915. in purses.
