Blasts Leo, Stanky for Long Games Bucs Fred Haney Hits Rival Pilots Says Fans Are Also Getting Tired of Stalling Tactics Employed by Both Managers PITTSBURGH, Pa., June 25 UP. Pirate manager Fred Haney said today, "I just hate to play the Cardinals and Giants," because hes fed up With long, drawn out games. Eddie Stanky and Leo Durocher "take their good old time to make changes and the fans dont like it," Haney said. Haney insisted he is not against the long game itself. "But Im dead set against unnecessary delays and stalling," he explained. ""And I dont think the fans like it either from some of the comments Ive heard from the stands." Haney said the game drags especially when Stanky and Durocher take their time changing pitchers. He referred to a Pittsburgh Pirates-St. Louis Cardinals game Wednesday night as a sample of his complaint. The contest lasted two hours and 42 minutes. Could Have Been Talking About Haddix "The fans could have been home talking about the great pitching of Harvey Haddix instead of muttering about the late hour arid the lack of action," Haney said. The Pirates manager complained that N"Stanky made us wait four or five minutes the other night until Haddix was ready to come out of the dugout and take his turn at. bat," "Why cant pitchers be ready like other batters?" Haney asked. "A pitcher works only every four days and he surely should be in condition." Haney said that "its about time we give the customers some consideration." "Ive never yet heard anybody get excited about, a long, drawn out game. But Ive heard the fans talk about a thrilling game that didnt keep them out all night."
