The latter moved clear soon after the start, dominated the pace for six furfbngs, then shortened stride and was tiring under stout urging. PARTID0 II. was unable to menace under stout pressure. M0FLAME was taken up slightly when caught in close quarters at the far turn and failed to regain a forward position. UTOPIA lacked a closing rally. The latter drew into a long lead at once, was kept on a steady pace, saved ground and held on stubbornly under stout pressure. CLOSING NIGHT rallied mildly after six furlongs but was not good enough. VERIBEST moved to engage the leader and then faltered. JAKABLOM slipped through along the inside to challenge for command and weakened. HATTER WAR was never a serious factor.
