Dover Handicap Attracts Eight Three-Year-Olds Arthur S., Under 122 Pounds, Likely Rockingham Favorite By AVERY BROWN Staff Correspondent ROCKINGHAM PARK, Salem, N. H., June 25. Sophomores hold the spotlight at Rockingham Park Saturday with eight slated to match strides in the ,000 Dover Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth. Irving Gushens Arthur S. is the highweight of the field with 122 pounds, six more Ithan, assigned to Dover Stables Past Tense. IDick Gottsmans Lanark, 115; Mrs. Alfred Robertsons Ornum, 114; L. Caillouettes Joes Crest, 110; Jim Carrs Mist Gray, 108; Mrs. B. Lewis and Mrs. G. R. Handys Whistles Brp., also 108, and Johny Dupuys Susans Pet at 101 pounds, complete the field. Arthur S, has been idle since June 8, when he lost what appeared to be ah easy victory over the local track by propping soon after entering the stretch. The Alsab colt was coasting well in front of his field" at the time and the suddenness of the incident caught Tony DeSpirito by surprise. Arthur S. again figures best off early season form and it is a cinch that whoever rides tomorrow will be on guard so as not to permit a repetiton of the incident. Trainer Eddie Anspach has not named his rider at this time. Lanark rates consideration at the middle distance. The chestnut colt has been one of the most consistent three-year-olds in New England. A winner of seven races thus far, Lanark seldom fails to earn some portion of the purse. Capable of staying close to the pace, Lanark has been noted for his ability to put on a stretch run. Vernon Smith has been engaged to handle Lanark. Ornum is another member of the Dover line-up who does most of his running in the final quarter-mile. Miset Gray, a four-time winner this season, will have the services of DeSpirito in the Dover and that makes the Basileus n. colt one of the choices. Past Tense is always a threat at the Dover distance. Capable of displaying enough speed to stay close to the pace, the Time Passes colt has shown on many occasions that he is endowed with the stamina necessary to figure in the late stages of the duel.
