--5 . Mississippi Valley Lures Nine to Post Consisten Harry-Lou May Be Choice Oyer Lucky Lable And Abolere at 1116 Miles By C. A. LINDEMAN Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, HI., June 25. Nine of the best horses now in training in this area will parade postward in the ,000 Mississippi Valley Handicap at a mile and one-sixteenth affair here Saturday night. This route event is packed with contention and top weight of 118 pounds has been assigned Harry-Lou by racing secretary J. J. Klucina. His main rivals appear to be Lucky Lable and Abolere. The. A. Schroeder all-distance handicap star, Harry-Lou, has made eight starts thus far at this meeting and has been able to turn back his opposition at both three-quarters and a mile and one-sixteenth. His most recent race was in the Cahokia Downs Handicap at six furlongs in which he was defeated, by the fleet filly, All Tilly by two lengths in 1:10. The Schroeder star is not Tery fast away from the starting gate and the shorter distances are a bit hard for him to handle if there happens to be a lot of early lick in the race. In Saturdays feature, Harry-Lou looms as the likely choice due to his ability to really turn it on in the late stages. His other defeat recently was the longer route of a mile and a sixteenth in which he was only beaten a head and a nose in 1:43 which was track record time. His winning race over the Mississippi Valley Handicap distance was in 1:45 with 114 pounds up. Lucky Lable Three-Time Winner at Meet Lucky Lable is seeking his fourth victory of the meeting Saturday night when he sports the silks of Mr. arid Mrs. G. B. Hol-man, Lucky Lable, a five-year-old son of-Valdina Lamar, also has won at both the shorter as well as the longer distances at this meeting". His winning race at the route distance was in" the Southern Handicap with 113 pounds up and he had to equal the track record of 1:43 to defeat both Abolere and Harry-Lou by a scant nose. The Holman racer has early foot and also has proved his staying power. M. Whitebooks Abolere is coming off a six-furlong victory in which he just managed to defeat Boston Bull by a nose in 1:11. That winning effort should be of help to him from the fact that he came from behind and appeared able to go on. The son of Revoked will have" 110 pounds up. Making up the remainder of the field for the Mississippi Valley are Galway Boy, from the stable of J and S Hanover; Dr. Rees, a recent winner for Mrs. Sam "Orr; Lancaster Lady, from the W. Tabbytite Stable, a winner of two races here at this meeting; Hawkwood Sis, Hope Hull and Whata-hoss. Snow Wave proved her superiority over a field of eight sprinters in the Dupo Purse Thursday night, when she just lasted to win by a scant nose over the fast-closing Okla Belle, before a crowd of 6,200. The Fisher and Fruchtman five-year-old mare, ridden by jockey J. DAugustino, was outrun in the first half of the six furlongs dash but, being best, moved up to take the lead entering stretch from the tiring Mister Plucky. She then drew away to a three-length lead entering the final furlong and, although starting to weaken in the final sixteenth, was able to stall off the determined bid of Okla Belle at the end. In winning the main attraction Snow Wave ran the sprint distance in 1:12. Okla Belle, from the barn of Seymour Snelling, was a bit tardy in getting into best stride, but, once on the move, was really flying in the stretch. Spicy Belle was a fast-closing third. Mister Plucky, the early pacemaker, tired after setting the pace for a, half. Doc Wolfe who was equal choice with Spicy Belle, lacked racing room entering the stretch and had no chance to give his best effort.
