William Woodward Jr. Elected Bowie Director Son of Late Jockey Club Chairman Carrying on Belair Turf Interests BOWIE, Md.f June 25. A famous name in the annals of American and English thoroughbred racing was added to the board of directors of the Bowie Race Course with the election of William "Woodward, Jr. Donald C. Lillis, president and chairman of the board, announced the election of Woodward following a meeting held at the southern Maryland track. The election of Woodward follows the policy established by the present Bowie management in maintaining the highest traditions of racing. Woodward, a member of The Jockey Club and son of the late William Woodward former chairman of The Jockey Club and breeder and owner of many of the greatest horses in the country including two "Triple Crown" winners in Gallant Fox and Omaha has declared his intentions of carrying on the name of the famous Belair Stud. Woodwards decision to continue the Belair Stud farm of -2,500 acres, located within a half-mile of the Bowie Race Course, was hailed by turf enthusiasts and his interest in Maryland racing should give the sport added stature here. In addition to the large stable maintained in this country, the Belair Stud has campaigned in England, and this year was represented by Ambler n., the early favorite for the Epsom Derby before going amiss. Woodward will serve on the board of directors with C. lillis, chairman; Douglas Casey, Howard Sy Pjerce, Humphrey S. Finney, M. Hampton Magruder, Joseph P. Crosby and Fred G. Pollard.
