! Nine-Horse Field in Molly Pitcher GEORGE C. WHITE Sends out the lightly weighted Vie in the Bull Dog Hi-Weight Handicap at Detroit. Atalanta Clashes With Spinning Top Latter Receiving Twelve Pounds From Count Fleet Mare in Monmouth Stake By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 25. The 5,000 added Molly Pitcher Handicap, premier attraction of the meeting for members of the distaff side, is to be , presented for its ninth running here Saturday at a distance of one mile und a sixteenth. Darby Dan Farms Atalanta, who finished second in this fixture last season, takes precedence over a field of nine in Saturdays renewal with a high impost of""" 124 pounds. John S. Phipps Spinning Top, recently a bang-up second to Sunshine Nell in the Top Flight Handicap at Belmont, receives a 12-pound handicap from Atalanta, and the others are spotted as much as 23 pounds. They are William M. Wickhams Winning Stride,, 111; W. Arnold Hangers Intencion, 109; John M. Grieves Miss Joanne, 107; Mrs. E. Kendall Weils Centenaire, 106; Carolyn K. Stables Shcdy Tune, 105; Puckey Farms Faga-La, 102, and Mrs. F. Wallis Armstrong, Jr.s Granule, 101. Soundly Beaten in Top Flight Atalanta was soundly defeated in the Top Flight Handicap, in which she carried the top impost but had no other excuse, and she also was found wanting in two sprint efforts this spring. The five-year-old daughter of Count Fleet jumped back to winning form in a prep for the Molly Pitcher last week, however, and this excellent performance probably will make her the favorite. Atalanta Triumphed in Preview In the mile and a sixteenth preview of Saturdays event she handily outpaced Intencion and scored by a length in 1 : 44, just three-fifths of a second away from the track record. She gave away only six pounds to Intencion, but managed her task with supreme authority, while Granule and Shady Tune were both well behind. Atalanta earlier won the Suwannee River Handicap at Gulfstream Park and last year she captured eight races and earned 17,-450. Stable rider Harrison B. Wilson wills have his usual place in the saddle. Spinning Top, a four-year-old Bull Lea filly, gave a smashingly-good effort in the Top Flight Handicap and barely missed the laurels. She should be fresh and ready for her best, as only good sprint races preceded her Top Flight appearance. She is to be ridden by Angel Valenzuela. Winning Stride closed with a late rush in the six-furlong Colonial Handicap to be third behind Brazen Brat and Cinda last week, and she appears at peak form. Despite her ability to stage a strong stretch drive in the sprints, she sometimes is lacking at the longer distances. Centenaire raced well against colts and finished a close third at tomorrows distance in her last outing, and the veteran Faga-La has also been displaying good form over this course.
