Broadcast River Downs Races Live Monday on Station WZIP RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 25. Today, Arthur Eilerman, president and general manager of radio station WZIP, Covington, and Henry Green, director of River Downs, issued a statement on the broadcast of the races from the local track. After two weeks of broadcasting the races, it had been mutually agreed that there was not sufficient sponsor and listener interest to devote so much broadcast time to this one sport. As a result, the station only carried the last two races on the air, with a complete summary of the entire days racing some time after the last race. But the deluge of phone calls at the station and at the track, protesting the shortened broadcast schedule indicated a much greater audience than supposed. Therefore, Mr. Eilerman and Mr. Green take pleasure in stating as a service to the public, for the balance of the summer meeting, beginning on Monday, June 28, all of the races will be carried live from the track, with Gene Smith doing the run- ning description and Ray Scott of WZIP furnishing the color. A summary of all events will follow the last race.
