Red Sox Put Harry Agganis On Voluntary Retired List BOSTON, Mass., June 16 UP. The Boston Red Sox announced today they had granted the request of Harry Agganis, their ailing first baseman, to be placed on the voluntary retired list. Shortstop Milt Boiling was reinstated on the active playing roster at the same time. The announcement said Agganis recent attack of pneumonia would require three weeks more treatment. In view of the long recuperative period, Agganis asked to be placed on the list, which means he would be inactive for at least 60 days. This action made room for Boiling, who has more than recovered from an early-season ankle injury. Agganis was stricken with pneumonia in Kansas City on a recent Red Sox western tour and has been confined to Sancta Maria Hospital in Cambridge, Mass.
