- SIDNEY I. CREW Leading owner of the River Downs meeting, is represented by Chanzibar in todays feature event at the Cincinnati course. Chanzibar After Third In Row at River Downs Meets Field of Sev.en Three- and Four-Yedr-Olds at Six Furlongs By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, Cincinnati, Ohio, June 16. The Hotel Alms Mermaid Purse, listed as the seventh race, will highlight Fridays eight-race program. The chief offering .is an allowance test for three- and four-year-olds and eight of the most capable speedsters quartered here have accepted the issue which will be contested at the popular six furlongs distance. Chanzibar, the three-year-old filly who races in the interest and colors of Sidney I. Crew, the Buckeye State sportsman and contractor who is the leading winning thoroughbred owner at the meeting to date with six triumphs to his credit, will be seeking her third consecutive win at this-session and appears to be capable of the task. This shifty miss captured the Spy Galley Purse here a week ago scoring in easy fashion over a band of fleet-footed runners and should add the Hotel Alms Mermaid Purse to her crown. Lucky Tim, from the H. V. Courtney barn, merits consideration on the basis of his recent endeavor when he finished third to Chanzibar and may take it all on a peak performance. The Courtney standard-bearer was beaten four lengths that afternoon but the shift of weight in his, favor may be the balancing factor tomor- j row. He drops 13 pounds while Chanzibar will carry one pound less than she carried in her winning essay which is a 12-pound difference. j Mike Reardon, the property of Paul Thompson, who is coupled in the wagering with Chanzibar, will be a formidable contender and he, too, will be. in quest of his third set of brackets at the River Downs meeting when he goes postward for Fri-j days feature. Trainer Milton Rinke, who is leading trainer with eight saddle victories conditions both these thoroughbreds. Mike Reardon may save the "bacon" should his stablemate falter when the real test comes. Jockey Howard Craig, leading sad-j dlesmith here, is again slated to pilot the Thompson campaigner. Jedgar earned a set of brackets here aj fortnight ago and may display enough zest in this contest to garner some portion of the purse. The unsexed son of Director J. ! 13. will carry the hopes and colors of the Hi-Acres Stock Farm and the capable reinsman Harry Holcomb who guided him successfully to his winning effort will again j be in the saddle. Sky Jeep will sport the silks of W. F. Scott and may be better than his most re-! cent endeavor indicates. He disappointed in the American Bar Association Purse but graced the winners circle prior to that defeat. Should he race kindly tomorrow he may be a sharp factor. Rounding out the field are Monon Brave and Susans Sir.
