Jack Kurtz Rides Daily Double at River Downs . Ohio Track Back to Fast Footing After Nine Days of Off Going By W. A. CRUSE Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, Cincinnati, Ohio, June 16.; ideal conditions prevailed here in this Ohio valley for the thoroughbred sport this afternoon. The weather was warm, though a comforting breeze wafted about the grandstand and clubhouse, and the track is fully back to a normally fast condition after a seige of nine days of "off" going. Jockey Jack Kurtz became- the third rider of the meeting to ride both ends of the Daily Double here this afternoon. Kurtz was astride J. Forrests Jumpy John in the gelding over the six furlongs in 1:13, commendable for a ,500 plater to celebrate his first victory in the 1955 season.1 To complete the Double, Kurtz was astride the odds-on favorite, Wallace Strongs Steak Bone, a seven-year-old Bull Dog gelding, also garnering his first purse this year. As a one-eight combination, the Double was worth 8.80.. The second odds-on choice of the afternoon won the third event and the popular Cincinnati jockey, Gilbert Roser, had Charles Meschers Tattoo Kid at the wire three-quarters of a length in front of A. H. Livingstones Choice B. Kurtz was on the latter and it was evident that he was trying for a third consecutive visit in front of "Andy" Andersons camera but Joes Choice gelding was just not good enough at the end. In graduating from the three-year-old and older maiden ranks, Tattoo Kid negotiated the mile and one-sixteenth in 1:48 flat, and to those who backed the Shush. mil: sn-.Wvilv thP rpfaim actQ n
