Canadian Championship Distance is Lengthened 0,000 Added Long Branch Race At Mile and Three-Sixteenths TORONTO, Ont., June 16. The Canadian Championship,. Canadas richest horse race endowed with 0,000 added and expected to gross around 0,000, will be run at a mile and three-sixteenths rather than the nine furlongs distance which has prevailed for the past two runnings. The fixture, inaugurated in 1938 when Bunty Lawless, owned by W. F. Morrissey, won the race, was run over the mile, and one-sixteenth distance. It remained at that route until 1953 when it was increased to a mile and one-furlong. This years test will be a sixteenth of a mile longer. Conditions for this years 18th running of the event which annually shares the spotlight with the Canadian-bred fixture, the Cup and Saucer at the autumn meeting of the Long Branch Jockey Club, are similar to those which prevailed last year. The subscription for nominating for the race is 5. and there is an additional 00. to enter the day before the race. Last year the entry fee was 00. The purse is broken down as follows: 0,000 together with all fees to the winner, not less than ,000 to second, ,500 to third, ,500 to fourth, ,000 for fifth and sixth positions. Second money has been increased ,000 over last year, while third prize had been increased 00, as has been the fourth award. The divisions for fifth and sixth places remain the same as last year. The race will be decided under weight-for-age conditions and there will be no Canadian-bred allowances. The number of starters is limited to 20, but any owner may nominate any number, but no more than one will be allowed to start in any one interest or under control of any one trainer. Horses entered w"hich are prevented from starting due to maximum number of starters limited to 20 will have all fees refunded.
