L. G. BUSTER BEDWELL— Trainer of J. F. Siccardis Invicto. Argentine-Bred Invicfo Going In Preokness Prep on Monday Recent Arrival Second in 1 U. S. Bow After Being Well Behind His Rivals at Start By CHARLES? HATTON PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 10.— L. G. "Buster" Bedwell, trainer of J. F. Siccardis Argentine-bred Invicto, was well pieased with the colts showing in his first start Wednesday at Pimlico, when he finished second after being well- behind the rest of the field at the start. Bedwell said that Invicto would start back next Monday in the Preakness Prep, a test of a mile and one -sixteenth which is designed as a final prep for those interested in the Preakness itself, due on Saturday, May 19. Also expected to go in the Prep is Christiana Stables Ricci Tavi, winner of the race in which Invicto finished second. It is known that trainer Henry S. Clark has been pointing Ricci Tavi for the Preakness. Wednesdays race was the first of the season for the son of Rico Monte — Sea Snack and his success at six furlongs in 1:12% and with an eight-length margin,, - was an impressive showing. However, he probably will need the Prep at the mile and one-sixteenth, as well, if he is to perform creditably in the Preakness at one and three-sixteenths miles. Father Saddled Sir Barton There will be a sentimental interest in Invictos appearance in the Preakness, if he makes the grade. He is, trained by the son of H. Guy Bedwell who back in 1919 saddled Sir Barton to win the Preakness, Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes to become the first winner of the Triple Crown of racing. Sir Barton was a maiden when he started in the first of the big three, just as Irivicto is a maiden at this time. Racing secretary J. Fred Colwill, scanning the list of three-year-olds likely to go in the Prep, in addition to Ricci Tavi and Invicto, rates Nahodah and Morning After as possibilities, dependent on their showing in todays seventh race. Also among the prospects are Beau Fond, Roman Battle, Skeptical Kid and Assorted. Since the Withers Mile is being run Saturday in New York, a number of Preakness possibilities will be in action there, rather than await the Preakness Prep.
