Pretty Plunger Triumphs at Camden Fashions Own Pace In Wenonah Purse Prince Hill Filly Defeats ā–  Kaylayenta and Recherche With Boulmetis in Saddle By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. Jā€ž May 10.ā€” Ada L. Rices Pretty Plunger day-lighted her field down the backstretch with Sammy Boulmetis maintaining a stranglehold on the reins, and .she had enough _ speed in- reserve when pushed along in the stretch to win this afternoons featured Wenonah Purse by a length and one-half. The sophomore daughter of Hill Prince, one of the early juvenile sensations last season, was todays favorite despite a disappointing debut Ihis year in the Prioress Stakes, which event was won by her stable-mate, Royal Lark. She paid .60 arid covered six furlongs over a fast track in 1:11%. Carries Top Impost ** Irving Gushens Kaylayenta responded when Walter Blum switched to lefthanded punishment for the stretch run and she. was -up in the last stride to take second by a* nose from Joe -S. Nashs Recherche. Calumet Farms Damaris was brought out to the middle of the track by Joe Culmone for the drive and she was plosing fastest of all at the finish, another length and one-half out of the money. , The weather was changing throughout the afternoon and was becoming increasingly cloudy at feature race time. The attendance registered 16,478. Pretty Plunger carried high weight of 121 pounds, giving three to Kaylayenta and nine to Recherche, the filly who was closest . to her for the pace. Boulmetis smartly held the winner in reserve for early fractions of :23, the three-eighths in :34 and the half-mile in :46. The five furlongs1 was reached in :58%. The victory was the 15th for Boulmetis at the meeting and regained him the riding lead. Walter Blum rode three winners in the early eevnts to tie Sam Boulmetis for the lead with a total of 14. The closest Boulmetis | came in these races was a close -second with Walter M. Jeffords Connie Casey, a two-year-old who was defeated by Blue Stone Farms Incaseofire in the fourth race. Justin Funkhousers Swoop Down provided "Mousey" Blum with his third triumph in the fifth race. The gray three-year-old daughter of Talon, who looks much more "mousey" than, jockey Blum, swerved out badly after taking the lead and almost was headed by Wish Tonight in the final stages, but Blum steadied her nicely in the last yards and she scored by a head. Wish Tonight, racing for H. P. Metcalfi finished second, and Mrs. Wm. Coxe Wrights Toome Vas third. It was the maiden victory for Swoop Down and she was favored at 2-to-l. Blums first success was in the second i race, scoring easily astride Ann-Del Farms Big Finale. The latter paid 3.80 and completed a 04.60 Daily Double. His other tally came with Ram Stables Mary Lawler, a juvenile daughter of Priam II. who won drawing clear in the third race for a .20jnutuel.
