9 Connecticut Day Attracts Sixteen Deep Thought Allotted Top Weight for Lincoln Downs Closing-Day Cap Saturday By ELI CHIAT LINCOLN DOWNS, Lincoln, R. I., May 10. — Mrs. Rose V. Robidoues Deep Thought, fourth in the 0,000-added Lincoln Special I behind Joe Jones, Find and War Command, heads the list of 16 nominations for the 0,000 Connecticut Day Handicap, feature attraction Saturday, final day of this meeting. As expected, the four-year-old, strapping son of Destino, who has already accounted for the Newport and Springfield handicaps here, was allotted top impost of 120 pounds. Bracketed at 118 pounds each are Thomas P. Morgans Bertie, the only newcomer in the group of nominees, and J. and P. Venutis Pipe of Peace. Bertie, who was forced to pass up the New London Handicap last week to fulfill an engagement at Jamaica, appears to be a definite starter. Morgan has notified racing secretary Gordon Morrow that the five-year-old Half Crown horse will be shipped here. Pipe of Peace in Good Form Pipe of Peace, slow in reaching his peak form, has finally attained his best racing stride as indicated by his victories in the New London and Hartford handicaps, and should find this mile and "one-sixteenth, distance suitable for his stretch charge. In last Saturdays New London, he was able to get up over the seven furlongs in time to hang a head defeat on the heavily backed Oclirock. Next in line in the weights are Robert S. Gettingers Chris Cross with 114 pounds and Jim Carrs Double Choice, 113. Each has a victory in allowance company here. John P. Cavals French-bred Amyn Bey, considered one of the top handicap performers in this area last year, has been assigned 112 pounds, with Charles Lawrences Opera Light, surprise winner of the Bridgeport Handicap, scheduled to carry 111.
