Hazel Park Horse influx Presages Meets Opening Valley View Farm Has Big Unit For May 21 to July 28 Racing HAZEL PARK, Mich., May 10.— Hazel Park is swinging into action for the start of the 60 -day spring and summer season which gets under way May 21 to continue through July 28! Horses are arriving from all sections of Jthe country to join the 250 j thoroughbreds already bedded down at the race course, and every one of the 1,020 available stalls will have its equine occu- pant well in advance of the inaugural. | Racing secretary and director of -racing Horace Wade opened offices on Monday ! after arriving, from similar duties at the | recent Gulfstream Park meeting, and he will be joined immediately by members of his staff. Entry clerk and announcer Eddie I Miller is on hand, and Jack Riggs and j Tommy Engelman are en route from Florida. I One of the largest stables on the grounds is that of the Valley View Farm, 25 strong, | including some of the top young prospects ! of the season. Valley View laid more than 50,000 on the auction line in the pur- chase of yearlings last season, and many of the best of these are awaiting their debut under silks at Hazel Park. Notable is the young chestnut, War Is L, a son of ! War Relic from Epic Lady, and thus half brother to the good horse, Epic King. Other extensive strings due to campaign at I Michigans popular five-eighths course include Barion H. VanBerg, a long time regular, V. R. "Tennessee" Wright, George C. White and others. Many newcomers are in the ranks, how-, ever. Charles Serbin is on the grounds with I the classy mare, Mabekky, certain to be a ! mainstay of the handicap colony. John _ I McDowell will saddle 20 horses for various owner. O. Hernandez has bedded down ! Mandingo, Old Baasket and others. Pros-I pects for the 1956 meetings look decidedly j bright.
