Assemblyman in Popular Front-Running Victory Colt Literally Steals Jamaicas Feature Under Atkinson Handling By BOB IIORWOOD JAMAICA. L. I., N. Y.. May 13.— Literally stealing" the featured Jackson Heights Purse, Olenelg Stables Assemblyman gratified the favorite players in the crowd of 24,107 here this afternoon by leading throughout the mile and one-sixteenth. D. and M. Stables Inside Tract, who ran in suprts, finished strongly to be less than a length in arrears at the finish, making up more than three lengths in the final furlong, while Joe W. Browns Tenacious was another three-quarters of a length back in third place. R. O. J. Streubers Eternal Flame was almost two lengths out of the money. Ted Atkinson rode the winning son of Menow-Libba, by Sir Damion, who paid .80 after getting the distance in a respectable 1:44% over a track that was still not particularly "lightning," though scraped again yesterday morning and today. "Atky" sent the fleet-footed Assemblyman into command at the start of the feature, quickly opening a two-length lead over Louis Lazares Hicks Error, who led Continued on Page Six Assemblyman in Popular Front-Running Victory Colt Literally Steals Jamaicas Feature Under Atkinson Handling Continued from Page One Roscoe Maney by several lengths in the run around the clubhouse turn and into the backstretch. Eternal Flame, Tenacious and Inside Tract completed the field in that order. While Assemblyman continued to cut out a moderate pace, Inside Tract made an abrupt move midway of the backstretch that carried him into fourth place, then appeared to hang there behind the winner, Hicks Error and Roscoe Maney as they sped around the turns to the stretch. Turning for home, Assemblyman still held a wide lead, while Hicks Error was beginning to tire and tenacious made a brief thrust that carried him into third place, as Inside Tract tried to bear in under Bill Bolands whip. Boland switched his stick to his left hand in the home lane and Inside Tract responded willingly, cutting the leaders margin with every stride, but failing to seriously threaten Assemblyman. Tenacious continued to finish well to be third, while Eternal Flame ran over beaten horses for the minor share of the awards. Hicks Error "stopped all over," as did Roscoe Maney. Bobby Ussery, leading rider at the meeting, got off to a flying start in the second half of the Daily Double events when he charged up from last place at the half-mile pole on the outside of the small eight-horse field of maineds with Maine Chance Farms Blue Goddess and with a belated rush worn down the front-running Hats Off near the end. The three-year-old Ace Admiral filly had a length and one-half margin in her favor at the end of the six furlongs, which she covered in 1:13. Blue Goddess was making but the second start of her career, having made her debut at Saratoga last August, an dthe authority with which she handled her opposition today suggests that she may well make her presence known in stakes company during the coming months. The W. L. McCue-trained miss was lightly backed in the wagering for she paid 4.50.
