Cambremer Wins Route Stakes at Longchamp Strassburgers Horse Definitely Will Run in Ascot Cup June 20 Special to Daily Racing Form PARIS, France, May 13 Reuters. — Ralph Beaver Strassburgers Cambremer, winner of the 1956 English St. Leger, won the ,300 Prix Du Cadran run over two and one-half miles at Longchamp here , Sunday. The race is regarded as a test for the Ascot Gold Cup. Cambremer will definitely run in the Ascot race on June 20, stable manager Monsieur Corvee said afterward. Cambremer. ridden by Fred Palmer, beat Brasidas by a half length with Flying Flag a length further away in third place. Borghetto, winner of the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Ascot last year, finished fourth in a field of 10. The winner, by Chamossakre. out of Tomorrow, paid almost 8-to-l. Vattel, winner of the Grand Prix de Paris in 1956, started as favorite but was never dangerous and finished fifth. Marcel Boussacs Macip, who won the Ascot Gold Cup last year, ran well i for two miles but tired. Like the winner, Borghetto, Vattel and Macy all are candidates for the Ascot race this year. Flying Flag made most of the running followed by Macip. In the straightaway. Macip weakened and Flying Flag dropped back shortly afterward. Cambremer went to the front and held off the strong challenge of Brasiday. At the same meeting, Le Ricolore, fourth choice for next months Epsom Derby, failed to stay the distance in the* 8,000 Prix Mocquart and finished sixth in the field of 11. Lavandin ran third in the event last year before his Derby triumph. The winner was Baron Guy de Rothschilds Argel, ridden by Paul Blanc. Argel is entered for the Derby but trainer Geoffrey Waison said later the horse would not run at Epsom. He will probably run in the French Derby on June 16 instead. Argel challenged in the straightaway to gain an easy win.
