Seven in Downs Whirlaway Purse Placer, Brookwood I Face My Night Out Manassas Also to Attract Attention; KTBA Dinner Purse Also on Program CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 13. — Seven shifty midde-distance performers, headed by D. H. Wells My Night Out, are scheduled to meet here Tuesday afternoon in the one-mile Whirlaway Purse. Included in the band named to oppose the Wells stalwart, a good winner at the current meeting, are I. J. Collins Smoky Hill, 119; Mrs. Elizabeth Mucklers Home-place, 119; Mr. and Mrs. John Zitniks Manassas, 119; E. A. Bischoffs Placer, 115; H. K. Goodpasters Filly o Mine, 119, and Herve Racivitchs Brookwood, 110 pounds, are slated to start in the Tuesday feature and will be coupled in the wagering. Jockey Johnny Rotz will have the mount on Brookwood or Filly o Mine, Sherman Armstrong rides Manassas, and George Roser is engaged for Placer. Dinner to Be Held in Evening The Kentucky Thoroughbred Breeders Association Dinner Purse is also listed for decision on the Tuesday card. This traditional four and one -half furlongs dash for maiden two-year-olds, property of KTBA members or leased by members, will be followed by a dinner at the Brown Hotel. A silver trophy will be presented to the victorious owner or lessee at the -evening affair. Getting back to the Whirlaway, My Night Out, Placer and Brookwood met here last week in the one mile and one-sixteenth Blue Larkspur Purse. My Night Out, successful in a prior Downs outing, finished second to Valley View Farms Lark Sun, a length and one-half separating the leaders at the wire. Placer and Brookwood displayed good early foot but both of them faltered during the late stages, running fourth and fifth, respectively. Manassas, a four-year-old Bull Run-sired colt, has worked impressively for his local seasonal debut. The Zitnik representative raced well here last year and he was a good class winner of the Benton Purse at Oaklawn Park in March. He is a capable performer on any type footing and mud moves Manassas up several pounds. Meantime, at this Derby course, interest is picking up for the fifty-first running of the Bashford Manor Stakes. The Saturday dash is expected to bring together a speedy band of two-year-old colts and geldings. Edward P. Metz Dudley Road, a candidate for the week-end fixture, worked five-eighths mile here Sunday morning in :59Vs. The Pavot youngster is one of the early choices for the week-end attraction.
